Made from recycled plastic, this gravestone asks questions about our complex relationship with the material. It frees plastic from its utilitarian duty, opening up discussions on what it means in our life (and death).
I decided to take the brief “Design a product to be made from recycled plastic” in a radical direction. I found a connection to human mortality while contemplating plastic’s persistence in the environment. It is very strange how something designed for a few minutes of convenience may end up outlasting all of us. Through a process of material experimentation, the final piece reveals an intriguing marble-like pattern.
