Overview

CSIRO has developed a technology that generates potable water from ambient air, using metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). They want to design a machine that embodies this technology, to capture the imagination and interests of potential investors.

My role

Concept development · CAD modelling · Design for manufacture

Challenges

  • As the core technology was developed simultaneously as the design, some details were only refined when scientific data became available.
  • Hard deadline
  • Fabrication is constrained by budget and available facilities.

Lessons

Communication is key. I learned to present ideas in a clear compelling way, and developed a “language” to communicate with the science team. Be flexible and adapt design changes.
